New year, new bathroom! Transforming your space into a stylish sanctuary requires a thoughtful bathroom remodel design. According to insights gathered from the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s (NKBA) 2024 Bath Trends Report, here are the hottest bathroom design trends we can expect to see in the upcoming year.

1. Modern Marvels

Modern and contemporary design styles are still reigning supreme, with a touch of organic and natural influences. The NKBA survey reveals that 55% of experts agree on the enduring popularity of these sleek and sophisticated styles. Transitional and timeless designs are also holding firm, with 64% of respondents vouching for their continued appeal.

2. Green is the New White

Bid farewell to the all-white bathroom! According to the survey, green is taking center stage as the preferred hue for bathrooms (35%), surpassing traditional choices like white (31%), blue (26%), and gray (25%). Embrace warm neutrals and earth tones for a cozy, calm ambiance that aligns with the biophilic-inspired color palette.

3. Water Closets

Small rooms with big appeal — water closets are a bathroom design trend that’s gaining serious traction, with 71% of respondents considering them highly desirable. Whether with or without doors, creating a private space for your toilet is the trend to watch.

4. Smart Toilets

In the realm of toilets, the future is smart! Anticipate automatic lids, warming seats, and self-cleaning functions to dominate the market in the next three years. Who wouldn’t want a toilet that cleans itself?

5. Showers Steal the Show

Elevate your shower experience with tricked-out features. Built-in seating, hand-held shower heads, rain showers, and body sprays are all on the rise. The survey reveals that 67% of respondents believe showers with separate tubs (57%) or entire wet rooms will be highly sought after.

6. Door-less and Frameless Showers

When it comes to shower configurations, open and curb-less is the way to go. A whopping 70% of experts prefer showers without doors, and any glass panels should be frameless and crystal clear for that modern touch.

7. Artistic Tiles and Wallpaper

Say goodbye to the monotony of large-format tiles and welcome the artistic flair of patterned designs like hex, chevron, and herringbone. Wallpaper continues to be a design darling, chosen by 50% of experts to introduce statement colors to the bathroom.

8. Unexpected Additions

Mini fridges…in bathrooms? 21% of respondents report a growing interest in adding refrigerators to primary baths for beverages, medications, creams, and makeup. It’s all about convenience and luxury.

9. Black is the New Chrome

Step aside, chrome — black faucets are stealing the spotlight, with 51% of experts favoring this sleek finish. Nickel or pewter comes in second at 45%. Matte and brushed finishes, equipped with Spot Defense for fewer water marks, are also gaining popularity.

10. Grout-Free Surfaces

Cleaning grout lines is so last year! Large-format tiles (74%) and slab or solid surfaces (68%) are gaining traction, offering a sleek, grout-free option for shower walls.

11. Quartz Dominance

Quartz is the reigning champion in the vanity material arena, chosen by 81% of respondents. Its light-colored, engineered aesthetic and easy-care qualities make it the top choice for bathroom countertops.

12. Lighter Vanities and Backlit Mirrors

Vanities are lightening up with preferences for light to medium natural grain and textured wood. Floating vanities are gaining popularity, with 64% of respondents predicting their presence in more homes. Additionally, 56% foresee the ubiquity of backlit mirrors, combining functionality with style.
